We have been huge fans of snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler for a while now—so much so that we made her one of our Adventurers of the Year in 2008 for her decision to take a year to snowboard in the backcountry (watch a video of her in action). During yesterday's Olympic halfpipe competition, Bleiler nailed her signature trick, the Cripler 720, but then crashed. While expected to add another medal to the Silver she won in Torino, Bleiler finished in 11th place. But she took it in stride: "It's crazy, the Olympics. It's two runs of finals. And you work so hard for it," said Bleiler, who won silver in the halfpipe at the 2006 Winter Games. "But sometimes it just isn't your turn." (Read more in this Denver Post article.)
Last summer, Bleiler stopped by our office to talk about her new Oakley ski and snowboarding apparel line, her upcoming wedding in Costa Rica, and her hopes for the Games. Read the interview here.
Great post!

vibram Barefoot Alternative (Four Hour Work Week. com) . Joel July 13th, 2009 11:13 am Thanks Jon and Angel This weekend I added a run with standard running ビブラム and did some serious stretching before my run with fivefingers . Today, my calves do not hurt nearly as much. So, stretching and some alternating seems to be the answer. I was a little disappointed in how much it hurt ファイブフィンガーズ bottoms of my feet when I ran on a rocky trail and then a gravel path with rocks that were hard to avoid.

Olympic games are like an athlete graduation, regardless of which discipline.

The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th century forced the IOC to adapt the Games to the world's changing social circumstances. Some of these adjustments included the creation of the Winter Games for ice and snow sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with physical disabilities, and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes. The IOC also had to accommodate the Games to the varying economical, political, and technological realities of the 20th century. As a result, the Olympics shifted away from pure amateurism, as envisioned by Coubertin, to allow participation of professional athletes. The growing importance of the mass media created the issue of corporate sponsorship and commercialization of the Games.
