Then we set to the task of telling stories—a lot of them. At their best, these tales opened our eyes, inspired us, and challenged our assumptions. And we sure covered some ground. In a little over a decade, we managed to journey to the top of Everest looking for the ghost of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine. We went into the mountains of Afghanistan with a man fighting the Taliban long before September 11. We tried ayahuasca in the jungles of Peru and stopped whaling vessels in Antarctica. We dodged rampaging elephants and evaded man-eating lions. We walked across Namibia and paddled to Timbuktu. And we enjoyed every last minute of it.
But, sadly, all adventures must come to an end. The December 2009 / January 2010 issue of National Geographic Adventure will be the last regular print edition. It's on newsstands now and, like our very first issue, it will surprise, move, and inspire you. But Adventure isn't gone for good. Keep an eye out for special newsstand editions, books, and on the web.
Until then, we’d like to sincerely thank our writers, photographers, illustrators and especially our readers for joining us on one of the greatest adventures of our lives. We hope to see you again soon.
The Editors
Thank you for all these years. Hope to see it on a news stand very soon.

I will certainly miss it's arrival in my mailbox. I also agree, NG is not a fitting substitute- there just isn't one.

What a shame this magazine ended. Your article about Ayahuasca was one of the best articles written on the subject in my opinion and has been responsible for bringing scores of people to Peru to experience it who otherwise would never have heard of it or wanted to try if for themselves.

I truly wasn't aware of this magazine from National Geographic.
As someone with an adventuring spirit trapped in an urban lifestyle in the middle-class I really love and can spend hours reading and looking at the awesome pictures of N.G.
Thanks for atleast having a decade of this.
I will be going to my local library and watching the Newsagent to get these editions out, and the new special editions to read them.
My adventuring mate will be really chuffed to hear about these.

Im glad you came in romania, even those calls can not travel, read and see pictures of places around the world, we know that there are people who enjoy the beauty and diversity of unexplored places, or at least we invaded the human foot to the 21st century knows nothing more than to spoil what nature has forged the most beautiful place

This magazine, in large part, is the reason my buddy and I decided to open up Jupiter's Motorcycle Rentals los angeles/orange county/new york.
We picked up this mag, and it wisked us away to Morocco: so we went to Morocco.
We picked up Adventure and it wisked us away to Spain: so we rented motorcycles and drove all around Spain.
We picked up this mag and it told us about the US great outdoors all around us: so we opened up our motorcycle rental business, and decided the main deal was to offer cross-country motorcycle rentals to all.
We're super bummed to see it go.
